Native Plant Walk: Coffin Wildflower Reservation

$25

with Heather McCargo

Calendar Next session starts Aug 24, 2019 at 10 am

The Coffin Wildflower Reservation in Woolwich is one of nine owned by the Native PLant Trust (formerly New England Wildflower Society). Hilly woods, a brook, and 1,256 feet of sandy shore and tidal marsh make up the 177-acre area, which borders lovely Merrymeeting Bay, well-known for its diversity of waterfowl. Hike the woodland trails along the east side of the bay to a large, old stand of bigtooth aspen and fascinating freshwater estuary plants that are limited to this rare habitat type.

This program is co-sponsored by the Native Plant Trust and Wild Seed Project, and will be led by Heather McCargo of Wild Seed Project.

To register for this class, visit the Native Plant Trust registration page.

with Doug Hitchcox

Calendar Next session starts Jun 20, 2019 at 7 am
9 additional sessions through Aug 29, 2019

Members: $5, Nonmembers: $8

Location: Gilsland Farm

Join us each Thursday for an easy stroll through Maine Audubon’s Gilsland Farm Sanctuary.  We will walk the property primarily looking for birds but won’t ignore any other wildlife or plants. Bring your binoculars and dress to be comfortable outside for two hours. Our total walk is usually 1.8 miles but people can leave early if needed.

We meet near the main parking lot. If you arrive late we are typically by the pond for the first 15-20 minutes before heading into the West Meadow. Walks last approximately 2 hours.

A list of the most recent bird sightings from Gilsland Farm can be found here: ebird.org/ebird/hotspot/L251783
