On this family-oriented hike, participants will use their senses to discover the night life at the marsh. We will try to find many different species of wildlife including a special night mammal, the bat. Participants will be able to use Wildlife Acoustics Echo Meters (www.EchoMeterTouch.com) to detect them and may want to download the free smartphone app in advance.

Experience a day of family fun, including a canoe tour, nature crafts, used book sale, nature and bird walks and more. There will be special programs for children as well as displays and information.

A used book dealer has given us a large amount of nature books so our used book sale will be HUGE this year.  We will also have excellent art books donated from the estate of Father Paul Plante.  Come join us for this fun-filled day and celebrate all that Maine’s largest salt marsh has to offer! This event is held in conjunction with the Friends of Scarborough Marsh.

Introduce your wee folk to this unique habitat through interactive hands-on activities.  They will experience the marsh first hand, looking through algae for small critters, jumping in the mud, looking at fish and insects up close and more.  There will also be a story and a craft.

Join us for a celebration of winter weather and wildlife! Learn, create, and play at a variety of indoor and outdoor activity stations, including a winter wildlife touch table, giant snow shelter, scavenger hunt, tracking activities, snow science and art, face painting, snowshoeing with L.L.Bean Outdoor Discovery School, and more!

Special kid-friendly shows with local musician Amanda Panda at 11:30 and 1:00. Amanda has performed all over the state and has just published her first CD. We are thrilled to have her at Maine Audubon for our Winter Carnival.

Winter Fun on Fields Pond!

Location: Fields Pond Audubon Center, Holden

Maine Audubon is partnering with University of Maine, Curran Homestead Village, and the Maine Discovery Museum for a day of science, history, and fun on Fields Pond.  Activities begin at 10am and run until 3pm and will include: Winter lake ecology stations on the pond (10am-1pm), traditional ice-harvesting demonstrations (10am-3pm), hands-on ice-science experiments for kids at the Fields Pond Nature Center (1pm), and Belgian draft horse sleigh rides.  

Fun for the whole family, minutes from downtown Bangor!  

All Maine Audubon programs are free for members. Non-members are $10 individual/$20 family.  

“Who Goes There?” Animal Tracking Workshop

Learn to identify mammal tracks through slides, prints and casts. Bring a notebook to make your own track field guide and make a track cast to take home.  Great prep program for Saturday's field tracking workshop!  Appropriate for all ages.
