Young children and their grown-ups are invited to spend an hour exploring nature through stories, songs, art and play. Each week with include both indoor activities and outdoor adventures designed to foster a connection to nature, encourage stewardship, and provide an introduction to group learning settings. Ages 2-5.

Preregistration is required!

Come meet the Owls of Birdsacre up close and personal!  “Achilles,” the educational, non-releasable Great Horned Owl; “Atticus,” the calm Barred Owl, and “Little Gentleman,” the diminutive Saw-Whet Owl.  Hear their stories of personal and species challenges and learn how we can help in the work of owl conservation.  This is a family friendly event. Space will be limited due to the comfort of the owls and humans (pre-registration is required).

 

Eyes on Owls

Location: Gilsland Farm

Join naturalist Marcia Wilson and photographer Mark Wilson for Maine Audubon’s annual live owl show. Each show includes a hooting lesson, an entertaining slideshow and a close-up look at several different owl species.

People of all ages love this show – come get close and personal with live owls!

This program often sells out, and tickets are selling fast - register today to avoid disappointment.

Three Shows:

10:30 – 11:15 am (shorter program, most suitable for young children)
1:00 – 2:15 pm
3:00 – 4:15 pm

The Wilsons (Dunstable, MA) first brought their owls to Maine Audubon in 1999 and have come to Gilsland Farm annually since 2003. Their owl sanctuary is licensed to house up to 22 owls and they typically bring six to eight owls of different species with them when they come to Maine. Learn more at their website.

The Night Tree: Annual Winter Solstice Celebration at Fields Pond

Join us for a family-oriented celebration of nature in winter as we recreate Eve Bunting’s classic story The Night Tree.  We’ll decorate our own night trees to share with Maine’s winter wildlife.

Come relax and spend time with your loved ones on the longest night of the year.  Warm cider awaits!

Advance registration is recommended.  Drop-ins welcome if space is available.

Bundle up and join the Fields Pond Audubon staff for a moonlit walk along the Sanctuary trails.  Hot beverages will be available indoors following the walk.  Snowshoes will be available for those in need, but pre-registration is required to reserve a set.
