Family Nature Night: Pond

Location: Gilsland Farm

Put on your pajamas and your hiking boots and join us for a special evening program for kids and their grownups. We will learn about the creatures of the pond at night!  Do they go to sleep when we go to sleep? Or do they take advantage of the dark and cool evenings? We hope to uncover this mystery by exploring our pond at dusk.  

5:30-6 pm Arrival and free play
Get settled and comfortable at an assortment of indoor activity stations.

6-6:30 pm Stories and songs
Welcome the dark with a large-group storytime.

6:30-7 pm Night hike
We’ll venture outside for a twilight adventure! For this portion, we’ll split into two groups to enjoy the unique opportunity to explore Gilsland Farm at night.

All children must be accompanied by an adult; maximum of 3 children per adult.

 Join Maine Audubon and our friends at Center for Wildlife as we get an up close look at fascinating species of bats. With the live animals and interactive discussion, we’ll learn more about these animals up close, and explore our connection to them.  

Please note: This program entails a formal presentation involving live animals, and is most appropriate for school-aged children and older. Guests are asked to remain still and quiet throughout the 45-minute presentation so as not to disrupt the animals and other people. Thank you!

Join Maine Audubon and Birth Roots for our 4th annual pollination celebration! Come ready to learn and dressed as your favorite pollinator, and leave ready to take action.

Schedule:

10am - 11:30am Family Festival
Crafts, games, a pollinator scavenger hunt, and more!

11:30am – 12pm Fourth Annual Pollinator Parade
We will march through Gilsland Farm to celebrate spring and to show our support for pollinator habitat. Costumes encouraged!

12 – 1pm BYO Picnic
Participants are invited to stay and enjoy a BYO picnic on the grounds. Picnic tables are limited, so bring a picnic blanket and please be prepared to pack out any garbage.

Although this event is free, we will be charging $5 per car to park. Space for parking is limited at Gilsland Farm and we want to keep the number of vehicles at a manageable level to minimize our impact on the wildlife preserve. Thank you for understanding and for carpooling!

Spring Family Fun at Gilsland Farm

8-week session (no class  April 17)

Young children and their grown-ups are invited to spend an hour exploring nature together through stories, songs, art, and play. Each week will include both indoor activities and outdoor adventures designed to foster a connection to nature, encourage stewardship, and provide an introduction to group learning settings.

Themes include birds and nests, amphibians, wildflowers, animal babies, and more!

Advanced registration is encouraged. Drop-ins are welcome if space is available. 

Winter Family Fun
